Olena Vitrichenko was introduced to gymnastics by her mother Nina
(Merited Coach of Ukraine) at age four. She continues to be trained by her to this day.
Vitrichenko's father Ihor, a PhD in mathematics, regularly drives his
wife Nina and daughter Olena to the gymnasium. While they train, he works on formulas.
Member of the former USSR junior team. At training camps she shared a
room with Ekateryna Serebryanska. While rivals in competition, the two have become good
friends.
She has been a member of the Ukrainian team since 1993.
Best result in the All-Around competition - silver at the 1994 European
Championships and 1995 European Cup.
Scored a perfect 10 in the Ribbon event at the 1996 World Championship.
Her favourite event is the Ball because it is the most challenging.
Often referred to as the "Professor" or the
"Academic" as a result of her serious and studious approach to training and
competition.
Enrolled at the Odessa Pedagogical Institute.
Enjoys travel. Has fond memories of visits to Edmonton, Canada and many
meetings with the large Ukrainian community there.
Likes sewing and the music of Gershwin.
