US Congress and Senate

The US Congress and the Senate have issued resolutions condemning the artificial famine and, through the U. S. Commission on the Ukraine Famine, have compiled information available for the study of this human tragedy.

United State Congress, House Concurrent Resolution 295,
105th Congress, 2nd Session:

"Expressing the sense of Congress that the 65th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Famine of 1932-1933 should serve as a reminder of the brutality of the government of the former Soviet Union's repressive policies toward the Ukrainian people."

June 24, 1998

Senator Carl Levin (D-MI)
"When children in the United States study the dark periods of human history, it is important that the Ukrainian famine of 1932-1933 be included."

October 1, 1998

Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ)
"The famine indeed constituted genocide, with Stalin using food as political weapon..."
